Baseline anthropometric measurements and Obesity among students in Sagamu, Ogun State, southwest, Nigeria

Objectives: This study was designed to determine the anthropometric characteristics and prevalence of obesity among secondary undergraduate students in Sagamu. Methods: cross-sectional involved a selection 260 aged 10 33 years Sagamu using convenience sampling method. The weight, height, waist hip circumferences each subject were measured. body mass index then calculated. Data analyzed SPSS version 25.0 p-values< 0.05 considered statistically significant. Results: age ranges 1o 17 (Secondary school (SS) students) 14 (undergraduate students). There 130 group, comprising 52.7% males 47.4% females. Underweight commoner SS (20.8% versus 6.2%). Most subjects normal weight 52.3% 68.5% undergraduates. Only 3.1% obese compared 4.6% students. mean BMI (22.2± 0.39 23.24±0.34) lower (p=0.019). circumference (66.92±0.44 74.64±0.67) also (p=0.000). higher females than male (23.14±0.62 20.86±0.42). female for both groups.
